Zara was our introduction to the newly introduced Riding Pony breed. Such was the quality that turned up when we crossed out our successful show mare Rolled Gold to the riding pony lines, that from then on we dedicated ourself to that breed.

Once broken in, Zara immediately set about winning in the show ring. She was a wonderfully conformated, brillant moving mare, and easily qualified for the Royal Melbourne show and was then placed 3rd in her galloway class even though she was overawed by the event.

Since we had others we wanted to start we decided to cover her with F.A. Windsine in his first breeding year and such was the quality she returned, Zara was never brought back into the show ring even though that had been our original plan.

All her progeny have been champions with some making the nationals. A more reliable and consistent breeder would be hard to find. Zara continually produces the best show hunter types that can be found. And if it wasn't for the fact we felt we needed to keep our numbers down to manageable levels, we could have produced many more.

Zoe was Beauparc's second cross to the 'new' riding ponies coming into Australia. We sent our show mare Rolled Gold to the imported Rotherwood Acrobat and weren't we happy with what we got. Zoe was then an instant hit when she hit the show scene in her debut year. Winning prolifically from her very first outing she accepted many broad sashes to qualify her for all the big shows. She was Miss Reliable that first year, and also stood final 10 at Barastoc GOTY.

Unfortunately Melbourne Show at the start of her second season was her undoing. In being expected to compete beside side show alley, the noise and activity completely unnerved her and thereafter she became a nervous competitor. Especially if any harness came out and so she missed out on many sashes that should have been hers when she worked too tensely.

She never got to live up to her potential and with others needing to come out, Beauparc decided to put her in foal and she has delivered us top quality horses since with success at national level.

Progeny for Beauparc

Tragedy struck Beauparc in 2005, when our stunning black thoroughbred mare Beauparc Black Lace (Ebony) became ill. Despite delivering a beautiful bay colt by Cherrington Damascus, and spending several sessions at the vet, we eventually had to make the choice to have her put down when the foal (Dale) was 6 weeks old.

We therefore lost our thoroughbred line with only Ebony's daughter Ruby by our stallion William left to carry on. But then early season 2008, Beauparc Reminiscing (Ruby) stress foundered. Again the vets did their best, but eventually we had to make the difficult decision to have her put down. Ruby though had delivered us two brilliant foals, and so the loss was extreme.

But thanks to Dale Plumb we were given the beautiful thoroughbred mare Sea Rhapsody to keep a thoroughbred blood line in our progeny. And what a line. Palace Music and Northern Dancer being the most recognisable names. Heidi went in first pop to Manorvale County Royal and delivered us a stunning chestnut colt. Then a Danny baby for us in season 2010. Both babies are stunners. Heidi has a delightful nature and Beauparc is happy to be her forever home.

From the very first foal, Beauparc Priscilla delivered sensational riding ponies to our foundation stallion Fairlight Acres Windsine. Shenae was another stunning baby in her time, and Beauparc expected her to excel in the ring as well. She had one outing as a 3 year old but so early in the season she still had her winter coat. (see photo) But she still took the champion sash from very strong competition, and despite being somewhat over awed by her first outing off the property.

She then went back into the padock while Lib showed others (and who were better in coat) and she then ended up being left for the season as we had enough to campaign. Then at the start of the next season, while taking out our new welsh colt Cherrington Damascus to compete at Adelaide Royal where he went Supreme Welsh B exhibit she showed signs of soreness, early onset laminitis, and so Beauparc covered her instead and she then produced two of the most stunning foals in Beauparc All That Jazz and Beauparc Rose Gold.

But with drought and a need to keep our numbers down she was loaned to Sefton Stud as she was too good a brood mare to be left unproductive. But with Rosie looking so fantastic we decided we needed a back up edition and now have Julia.

Sami was Zoe's fourth baby and again we were very happy with the consistency of quality in our Zoe/William cross. Although she at first looked a little plainer than than some of her earlier sisters in her baby years, it was when she was being broken in that Sami's quality lept to the fore. Showing the most extravagant movement, as soon as she framed up it was like, wow, look at that!

At her very first outing, led and under saddle, she took champion and even though she was thoroughly on the toe with her first outing off the property, she performed beautifully. And we certainly believed she was one of the best ever to be produced by Beauparc. In both temperament and quality.

Because Libby is time limited and there is always stud work, plus horses needing work or to be shown, and knowing we could not offer a consistency of work or outings, it was agreed to allow her to travel to a connection in Queensland where it was thought she would sweep all before her.

We have no idea what happened there, reports didn't tally with the outcome, a broken wither, but Sami eventually returned to Victoria. After recovering condition, and now measuring as a small galloway rather than a big galloway, and since most of our breeding girls had some age on them, she was added to our brood mare paddocks.

With full brothers Rotherwood Acrobat and Rotherwood Windswept as grandparents, she oozes breeding and has now produced two delightful colts for Beauparc.

Ruby would have made a great show horse in her own right, but she proved to be Beauparc's calamity Jane. As a yearling there was a paddock accident where she somehow catapulted herself over a gate. She emerged battered and bruised and while there did not appear to be any breakages, for a long time she could not lift her head and always stressed out when asked to lead or raise her head.

Time healed the obvious, and while a sweet mare, she stressed easily when handled. Going to break her in, she got so upset we chose to put her in foal and see if this might help her get over her issues. She bred easily but the delivery was another issue and James's story can be found on his own entry. So she never bonded with her beautiful boy and many predicted that she would therefore not make a brood mare.

But she proved everyone wrong when she again concieved easily and Beauparc ensured she delivered safely this time, by mounting a 24 hour watch and not only did she accept her baby but was a good mum as well.

Sadly we were not to get another foal. Just as we planned to cover her again she stress foundered. Her weight was not an issue, and we are not sure what set it off, but she ended up with four feet badly affected and despite treatment her pain levels were such we decided not to let her suffer any longer.

Now as her babies hit the show scene her loss proves to be massive.
